The course series introduction described the two types of writing to be covered in this self study program: rules-based writing (a writing construct governed by rules) and choice-based writing (a writing construct governed by choice making). This initial course, Writing Correctly, covers the first type—rules-based writing—and focuses on constructs such as punctuation, grammar, and word usage. In one respect, these rules are easy to learn because there’s no ambiguity. The rules are the rules!
The course is broken down into three training modules, each containing several sub-sections of related content. Modules for Course 1 are:
– Punctuation: topics include Commas, Semicolons, Colons, Dashes, and Apostrophes
– Sentence Problems: topics include Fragments, Run-on Sentences, Subject-Verb Agreement, Dangling Modifiers, and Parallel Construction
– Confusing Words: topics include three sets of commonly confused words
The best way to proceed through these modules is linearly. However, feel free to return to completed sections to review as frequently as you need.
